One of the biggest trends for this year is the “Second city travel”, which means travelling to a particular destination rather than keep visiting the most popular cities around the world. The main idea is to explore lesser-know places, cities or destinations of a country in order to reduce over tourism and protect the place from mass tourism.

In addition, I consider that it has relation to start thinking locally, and by that, I mean thinking that the place we are visiting is ours, in order to take care about them. Last but not least, we do not have to forget that this trend and new way to travel will give us more unique experiences and memories that will last-long. Here I let you some second city destinations that I have recently discovered:

1.KYOTO IN ASIA. Although Kyoto is popular, it receives fewer tourists than the Japanese capital, Tokyo. In addition, this city is filled of innovative architecture, palaces, boasting temples, gardens, imperial palaces, … and a lot of historic sites due that it was the Japanese Capital between 794 and 1868. On the other hand, here you have the reasons why visit Kuala Lumpur is my second Asian recommendation (and others).

2.HAMBURG INSTEAD OF BERLIN. Berlin (where nice and cool people live), Frankfurt (the finance hub), Munich (manufacturing city),… every city has its single identity but, Hamburg is a essence mix of these cities. The city owns nice and attractive services to tourists and travelers as a beach hub, art institutions as the Hamburger Kunsthalle or the Museum für Kunst. An important fact, is the increase of arrivals on the latest years to Hamburg.

3. SALTA INSTEAD OF BUENOS AIRES. Salta is and old colonial city in the north-west of Argentina and is one of the top emerging cities for 2020, according to Booking. Special things as cafés surrounding the palm tree lines plaza, El Patio de la Empanada, a large food hall filled with a lot of empanada sellers, vineyards for those who love wine tours and testings.
